Announcing PaperVision® Enterprise R82

As you know, we have been diligently working on the largest release in the nineteen-year history of PaperVision Enterprise (PVE), and we’re excited to announce that R82 is now available on MyDSI!

In this release, you’ll not only see extensive improvements to import and migration capabilities, but you’ll also have access to our newest beta website, which includes an all-new user interface alongside the more traditional interface you already know. In R82, you’ll love the robust feature set you appreciate from PaperVision Enterprise, and it’s still wrapped in the easy-to-use interface and sensible price you count on from Digitech Systems.

PaperVision Enterprise R82 is Available NOW!

With more than sixty enhancements, PaperVision Enterprise R82 represents the largest release in the product’s history. Many of the core components and pieces of functionality have been completely rewritten to facilitate our ongoing transition to next-generation products that preserve and enhance the market opportunity for our distribution partners. Significant changes to import and migration capabilities as well as the new user experience options are detailed below.

Import Enhancements

PaperVision Enterprise R82 makes it easier than ever before for you to work with data group imports. New capabilities include simultaneous imports of data groups for the same project, file and index field verification during import, auto-mapping of data groups, and the application of document security as files are imported rather than at the end of the import, allowing instant protection of information.

We have also made changes to streamline file verification, which ensures that all files for a data group exist. In previous versions, file verification was performed after the data group’s database entries were created. R82 now performs file verification for every page (or file) for each document as the document is being imported. Based on the entity’s Import Error Handling settings, the import will immediately halt when a missing file is encountered, or it will simply skip the document and continue importing subsequent documents. In either case, administrators will also receive emails outlining the documents that are missing files, so they can follow up.

Migration Enhancements

In addition, our product experts have thoroughly redesigned the migration capabilities of PVE. New migration features for R82 include the ability to: schedule automated migrations, migrate to XML data groups, migrate any type of document (including COLD/ERM, CAR, and message manager data, etc), and include extended document information—such as annotations and full-text data—in the migrated data group.

Please pay particular attention to the following changes.

  • Migration settings are now part of the Entity Property screen, and migration statistics are included in the Utilization and Billing reports.
  • In R82, migrations are created in the PaperVision XML data group format (instead of PaperFlowTM datagrp.mdb), which facilitates support for all document types and enables inclusion of additional document information (i.e. annotations and full-text data).
  • A new Max Documents per XML feature splits an XML data group across multiple XML files within the same data group, allowing the creation of extremely large XML data groups that can be managed (i.e. imported, etc.) without hitting the memory limitations of a single XML file. Please note: PaperVision Enterprise R82 automatically detects these split data groups during import. However, as this is a new feature, these data groups cannot be imported into versions prior to R82. If you are migrating data to be imported into an older version of PVE (prior to R82), it is strongly recommended that you do NOT use the Max Documents per XML feature by setting the value to zero (0).
  • The PaperVision Distribution Assistant is no longer included. As a separately licensed software component, the Distribution Assistant was used to facilitate retrieval of data from data groups without using PaperVision Enterprise. It worked exclusively with PaperFlow data groups and does not work with PaperVision XML data groups.

Entirely New Web Assistant

In R82, the PaperVision Web Assistant has been re-engineered to improve your ability to work with documents and workflows. With the new Web Assistant, you can scroll to navigate documents; see the document image and related full-text on dual tabs; view document thumbnails; choose to index now or later when adding new documents; and dock, resize and move windows to customize your user experience. In addition, you can now execute custom .NET code as part of a workflow task. Please also note the following.

  • The new Web Assistant offers annotation features and fully supports annotations created prior to R82. However, annotations created (or edited) in the R82 release will not be viewable in the older releases of PaperVision Enterprise or the Web Assistant.
  • The older Web Assistant (pre-R82) can still be used with R82 servers.

Check Out the Optional New User Experience

Our web team has also been hard at work building the next generation browser-based user interface (UI). The purpose of this new UI is to provide a fresh look and feel, offer new features not previously possible with the underlying architecture, and provide a UI specifically designed not only for traditional computers, but also tablets and phones. This next generation interface is the future!

Choose Your Experience

PaperVision Enterprise R82 is shipping with two websites. Both websites are configured separately during installation. Your PVE R82 server can run one or both of the websites.

The first is a traditional UI that looks and operates very similarly to prior versions, but includes some new features (such as updated migrations and the new PaperVision Web Assistant). You may continue to use this more traditional UI when R82 is released.

The second is the optional “beta” website, which uses responsive design to automatically re-arrange and resize elements to create the best viewing experience for smaller screens on tablets and phones. This beta site includes a responsive experience for the document viewer as well. You’ll notice the following among the comprehensive enhancements in the new UI.

  • Access projects, worksteps waiting/owned, e-forms, destruction lists, favorite and recent documents directly from the Home page.
  • Drag-and-drop files to the Add Documents, Project Search Criteria, Project Search Results, and Folder Results windows.
  • Utilize the Quick Find toolbar at the top of every page to perform an Advanced Search of all fields in all projects (previously called global search) or to search within a specified project, giving you secure, instant access to any document.
  • Access the Home, Recycle Bin, Downloads, Administration, Projects, E-forms, and Destruction List pages at any time from the Site Content menu.
  • Use the User menu to access User Options, Migration Jobs, Notifications, and Advanced Search, as well as to logout.
  • Use icons to quickly access common functions, such as search, upload documents, or scan, simply by hovering over a project in the Home screen.
  • Search for documents using Document ID or Document Creation Date.

Give us Your Feedback

We chose to offer two sites to allow our development team to gather feedback about the new beta site from our installed base, as well as to give you some time to get comfortable with the new look and feel – all while having the familiar UI available. Please work with your team and your CDM to help us refine the beta website. We want your feedback, so please make sure your team sends comments, suggestions, and even kudos to the development folks at dev@digitechsystems.com.
